Scrum half Rhodri Williams praised Dragons for not taking ‘one backwards step’ as they answered recent criticism with the narrow 13-12 victory over Scarlets at Rodney Parade on New Year’s Day.
The Men of Gwent were in the firing line after the heavy 55-21 against Cardiff on Boxing Day.
But Dai Flanagan’s men responded in the right fashion in the first game of the BKT United Rugby Championship in 2024 to the delight of captain Williams.
"I thought the boys dug deep," said Williams.
"It came down to the physical battle and I don't think we took one backwards step.
“We were questioned after last week, and there was plenty of things in the media thrown at us.
“What better way to do it than at home at Rodney Parade in front of a passionate set of fans.
"The youngsters stepped up. Harri Ackerman and Aneurin Owen bossed that midfield against a very good Scarlets side.”
