He’s coming home! Dragons RFC can today announce that dynamic young hooker Oli Burrows will return to Wales next season after agreeing to join the Men of Gwent.
The former Wales Under-20s international makes the switch from Exeter Chiefs and becomes our latest recruit as the new-look Dragons continue to take shape.
The Neath-born front row – who stands 6ft 2in and weighs 17st 4lb -played his early rugby for Neath Athletic and was part of the Ospreys Academy during his time at Millfield School.
Burrows arrived at Sandy Park in 2020 and made his senior debut for the Chiefs in the Premiership Cup against Bristol Bears in 2021. He also had a playing spell at Cornish Pirates.
The 21-year-old joins back row Shane Lewis-Hughes, lock Steve Cummins, back row Solomone Funaki, centre Harry Wilson and wing Chris Hollis in becoming a new Dragon.
Head Coach Dai Flanagan said: “Oli is a big man and is still young at 21 (years-old), but he has a lot of potential.
“It’s great we can bring someone like him back home to Wales, he is an ambitious player who will look to drive competition in the front row.
“He’s a former Wales U20 international so we are excited to see how he can develop further here at the Dragons.”
Burrows said: “I’m really excited for the opportunity to return home to Wales and become a part of such an ambitious club going forward.
“It’s clear that Dai and the coaches are building something exciting at the club and I’m looking forward to fighting for a place in the match day squad each week and bettering myself each day alongside some quality players.
“I can’t wait to reunite with some familiar faces from Wales age grade sides over the years and play a part in getting the Dragons to where they belong.”
Welcome to Oli from us all at Dragons RFC.
