Woody and Westy in for Judgement Day

29/05/2024

Talented young duo Ryan Woodman and Joe Westwood return to the starting line-up as Dragons RFC finish the season with a Judgement Day clash against Scarlets at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

Head Coach Dai Flanagan has declared his team early for the BKT United Rugby Championship fixture in the capital and makes four changes to his side.

Woodman is named in the back row, alongside Wales international duo Taine Basham and Aaron Wainwright, while there is also a start up front for hooker Brodie Coghlan.

Centre Joe Westwood is recalled in midfield and lines up alongside Aneurin Owen, who makes his 50th appearance for the Men of Gwent.

The final change to the team is a return for Rhodri Williams at scrum half, with the number nine also named captain.

James Benjamin, George Nott, Dan Lydiate and Che Hope are named among the replacements and joined by Steff Hughes who will make his 100th BKT United Rugby Championship appearance when he comes on.

“We’re excited for the game in the capital and looking to finish our season on a high note,” said Flanagan.

“We enjoyed the experience of Judgement Day last season and it’s important we mirror that performance if we want to achieve the same result.

“It’s great to see players like Joe Westwood, Ryan Woodman, and Brodie Coghlan earning a place back in the team for the final weekend.

“It really shows the future direction of our club, with talented young players eager to make an impression and play for a team that means a huge amount to them.”
