Dragons bring in prop Jones on loan

11/10/2024

Dragons RFC have bolstered the club’s front row resources with the short-term loan signing of Cameron Jones from Ospreys.

The 23-year-old – who stands 6ft 4in and weighs 17st 11lbs – is part of the senior set-up at Ospreys and made his debut for the club in the EPCR Challenge Cup last season.

The loosehead prop links up with the Men of Gwent with immediate effect thanks to support from our colleagues at Ospreys, ahead of the BKT United Rugby Championship fixture with Emirates Lions at Rodney Parade this weekend.

Dai Flanagan, Head Coach at Dragons RFC, said: “We’re pleased to be able to bring in Cameron on a short-term loan and our thanks go to Toby Booth and Ospreys for help in facilitating this move that will benefit all parties.

“Cameron is highly regarded at Ospreys and will give us much needed depth to our front row with a number of players currently sidelined through injured.”

Toby Booth, Ospreys Head Coach, said: “We are always looking for the best opportunities to develop players. Dragons reached out and asked if we would help them out. We are pleased we could offer support during a crucial time, whilst facilitating Cam’s development. After it was discussed with Cam, and he was excited about it, it was imperative to get it done to maximise his development time.

“We all look forward to seeing how he goes whilst with the Dragons and are pleased to be able to help our fellow Welsh neighbours.”

A former Wales Under-20 international, Jones spent a spell on loan in South Africa with Toyota Cheetahs earlier this year.

A product of Gowerton RFC, Jones made nine appearances for Wales at Under-20 level and was a try scorer for Wales in the final game against Scotland in the 2021 championship held at Cardiff Arms Park.

Welcome to the club, Cameron!
