Carter looks to maintain positive starts

28/09/2024

Captain Ben Carter praised the way with which Dragons RFC started the BKT United Rugby Championship clash with Leinster – and called on the squad to keep momentum going forward.

The Men of Gwent produced a spirited and tactically strong opening 40 minutes at Aviva Stadium as the home side led 10-6 at the break.

But the Irish province pulled away in the final quarter to wrap up the bonus point win and leave Carter with areas to target for improvement.

“I felt we got off to a good start and then a couple of their tries really damaged our momentum,” he said.

“After that we found it hard to get any points on the board.

“We started so well and the target now is to play games at that level for the full 80 minutes.

“It’s about looking back and getting better, but the six-day turnaround was tough for us too.

“Physically we matched what we needed to, we showed that at the start of the game.

“But there are moments where we can be smarter discipline wise and that is our focus as we look to the Sharks fixture back home.”
