The BUCS Super Rugby Milk Championship Finals are coming to Wales for the first time this coming Wednesday when they arrive at the home of Dragons RFC.
After a year of Britain’s top University rugby sides battling it out, all eyes now turn to Rodney Parade with four sides pushing for finals silverware.
The finals will have a strong Welsh presence this season after Cardiff Met Women secured their finals place for the very first time.
A try from Wales international hooker Molly Reardon ensured that Met beat reigning champions Hartpury 19-12 away from home in their semi-final.
Coached by former Wales international Lisa Newton, Met will take on Loughborough Women in the final with the African Violet securing their place courtesy of a win against Exeter in their semi.
After losing to Hartpury in last years’ final, Loughborough will be hoping to go one better at Rodney Parade.
After two tightly contested semi-finals the final is set to be a close battle with only a point separating the sides when Loughborough hosted Met less than two months ago.
In the men’s draw a try from Wales Under-20s and Dragons RFC Number Eight Evan Minto helped his Hartpury side to the final.
Facing Cardiff Met, who had led until the final minute, Minto’s try forced extra-time with Hartpury ultimately prevailing.
In the final, Minto along with Wales Under-20s captain Harry Beddall – an upcoming summer recruit for the Men of Gwent - will take on table toppers Loughborough as first and second in the league phase go head-to-head.
As in the women’s side of the draw, Loughborough overcame Exeter in their semi-final to secure their place and will be looking to secure back-to-back titles as well as a famous double.
With history on the line on hallowed Welsh soil it is sure to be an incredible occasion at the home of Dragons RFC.
