Dragons RFC are pleased to announce talented homegrown loosehead prop Dylan Kelleher-Griffiths has signed his first senior contract with the club.
The 21-year-old made his debut for the club on New Year’s Day this season and has impressed with his development and work ethic.
The St Peter’s product has also represented Pontypool RFC, helping them to a huge win against derby rivals Ebbw Vale in December on his return from injury.
Former Wales U20s player Kelleher-Griffiths is a converted back row, having made the switch under the guidance of Forwards Coach Sam Hobbs.
“Dylan’s had a really good couple of years,” said Hobbs. “He converted to loosehead about four years ago and his journey from number eight to prop over a short space of time has been really quite impressive."
“He had a strong pre-season, was unlucky to pick up a nasty ankle injury but he’s come back in good condition, physical and he's put in some really strong performances.
“Dylan’s strength is his toughness, his edge and his coachability, he wants to improve every session.
“He’s probably played more he would have been expected, but he's definitely fronted up and I’m looking forward to him continuing his development over the next couple of seasons.”
Kelleher-Griffiths said: “Making my debut this season was a surreal experience. Finally getting to put the Dragons shirt on fulfilled a huge goal of mine.”
“I feel over the past few months we have been building towards something special, so I’d like to see that through with the team that have given me such great opportunities.
“Working with Filo is an experience I’m very grateful for, while Sam Hobbs and Matt O’Brien have shaped my career from a young back row to a front row, and I’m grateful they have been with me throughout the whole process of becoming a Dragon.”
