Live Aid Tribute Concert: Your FAQs

The ultimate tribute concert experience is coming to Newport this weekend as we host ‘Live Aid Tribute at Rodney Parade’ - and we have compiled a list of FAQs for a packed day of tribute acts!

We will be paying homage to the legendary Live Aid’ 85 show that rocked the world on Saturday, August 30 at the home of the Dragons. Our ten-hour musical spectacular – that starts at 12.15pm - is certain to get on your feet and partying – and tickets remain on sale NOW as we celebrate the 40th year anniversary of the original UK Live Aid event.

What time do Gates open?

The Gates will open from 12noon – please be aware of the early timings for the concert. We encourage all ticket purchasers to join us for the entire, but you can also enter at a time to suit you. Please note access will be via the Main Gate, situated off Grafton Road, only for the concert.

Can I purchase tickets on the day?

We recommend purchase of tickets in advance, but we will have a limited number available on the day. You can purchase on the day in person from the Ticket Office at the Main Gate between 11am and 5pm. Admission is via ticket (eticket or printed copy) only, please bring everything you need, as there is a strict “no readmittance” policy at the stadium, which is in place for everyone’s safety for this event.

What time will the entertainment start?

We will have a host of acts taking part as we pay tribute to the likes of Elton John, U2, Queen, Madonna and David Bowie.

  • Madonna - 12.15pm
  • George Michael - 1.15pm
  • Dire Straits - 2.30pm
  • Elton John - 3.45pm
  • Rick Parfitt Jnr - 5pm
  • U2 - 6.30pm
  • David Bowie - 7.45pm
  • Queen - 9.05pm

Who can attend the concert?

Please be aware that the concert is an over 18s only event.

Will there be parking available on the day?

Unfortunately, there is no car parking availability at Rodney Parade. For car parking please follow directions for the city centre once you have departed the motorway. Car parks at both Friars Walk and Kingsway are available and a short walk across the Millennium River Bridge. The entrance on Grafton Road is a short distance from the Bridge.

Will there be catering and refreshments options?

Yes, an expanded range of outlets will be available throughout the event, plus numerous bars.

Will the Club Shop be open on the day?

No, the Club Shop will not be open during the event.

Can I bring my own food and drink into the event?

No, food and drink are not allowed to be brought into the venue.

Can I bring a camping chair and picnic blankets into the ground?

Yes, but you will only be able to use them within a designated area away from the stage.

What should I wear?

Please be prepared for all weather conditions as this is an open-air event being held on the training field - not inside the stadium. Please wear appropriate footwear to the event.

Can I bring an umbrella into the ground?

No, so please dress accordingly for all weather conditions. We have limited covered areas.

Where do I go if I have VIP access?

Enter the venue via the VIP lane at the main gate and then make your way to the marquee for access and your wristband.
