Tiatia: Leaders have been instrumental

29/12/2025

Head Coach Filo Tiatia has praised the leadership group in the Dragons RFC playing squad for playing an ‘instrumental’ role in recent successes – but insists there is still plenty of work to do.

Dragons enjoyed a strong second half of December that saw a European victory over Lyon and bonus point win over Connacht on home soil before Cardiff were pushed all the way on Boxing Day.

Attention now turns to New Year’s Day and a big BKT United Rugby Championship derby with Scarlets at Rodney Parade (kick-off 3pm) as the Men of Gwent look to make it three successive home wins.

And ahead of that crunch clash, Tiatia has spoken of his pride in the leadership team at the club and the accountability taken on by the players as they look to keep moving forward.

“We are really clear on where we are at and where we need to shift,” he stated.

“Our leadership group has been instrumental in the last month or so, in terms of what they need from each other.

“Angus O’Brien has been outstanding with Ben Carter in that group, along with Thomas Young, Aneurin Owen, Harrison Keddie and Mattew Screech.

“They have been outstanding with the group, and we have just got to keep moving forward and learning faster, so we win moments in games.

“We are trying to build. It is pleasing to see how they are growing, but there is still a lot of work to do.

“There is competition for all the jerseys and I am really proud of players like Che (Hope),” added Tiatia.

“Even some players that didn’t get picked for this last fixture (with Cardiff) just need to stay in and keep improving. That is what we need.“
