Dragons RFC fly half Harri Ford slotted the winning kick as Wales Under-20s overturned a first half deficit and second half nerves to seal a dramatic 20-18 victory over Italy at Stadio Comunale di Monigo in Treviso.
Richard Whiffin’s side was hanging on for dear life in the dying stages with Italy winger Jules Ducros knocking the ball on with the try-line at his mercy.
Wales cleared the danger but in the last minute of the game Italy fly half Roberto Fasti had a chance to break Welsh hearts with a penalty but his shot sailed wide to give the visitors their first win of the campaign.
Congraulations to Dragons RFC quartet Ford, Ryan Jones, Logan Franklin and Evan Minto who all featured in the victory.
Rodney Parade hosts Wales Under-20s in the Six Nations this February – with tickets available to purchase HERE.
Richard Whiffin’s side travel to Newport in Round 3 (Friday, February 21 - 7.45pm kick-off). Rodney Parade will host an Under-20s international for the first time since 2008 when New Zealand were the visitors in a Junior World Cup clash.
And Wales U20 head coach Richard Whiffin is already looking forward to hosting Ireland at Rodney Parade in the 2025 U20 Six Nations.
“We’re excited to get back to Cardiff playing on a Friday night against England and then Ireland at Rodney Parade in Newport,” he said.
“We expect England and Ireland to travel well so we expect it to be an exciting boisterous crowd, so we’ll be going all out to play an attractive brand of rugby to excite the crowd.
“There has obviously been a lot of Dragons boys playing in the SRC so it will be great for the local Newport fans to get down to Rodney Parade and see their boys play in a red jersey.
“It’s been great when we have been up in North Wales at Parc Eirias, had some great results and times up there the hospitality and had great support up there but it’s fantastic we’re now down south where we are looking to grow our fan base."
