Evans & AOB ruled out after surgery

22/01/2025

Dragons RFC full back Cai Evans and fly half Angus O’Brien will both have enforced spells on the sidelines after undergoing surgery.

Evans – who has made 20 appearances for the Men of Gwent over the last two seasons – suffered a ruptured Achilles injury during the EPCR Challenge Cup fixture with Section Paloise at Rodney Parade. T

he 25-year-old has now had successful undergone surgery that will rule him out for the rest of this season.

Evans now begins his rehabilitation and recovery programme, with the full support or the medical and S&C team at Dragons RFC.

O’Brien has also been ruled out after surgery on a thumb fracture. The 30-year-old was forced off at half-time in the Section Paloise fixture and now commences a period of rehabilitation before his return later this season.

Interim Head Coach Filo Tiatia said: “It’s a shame to lose both players to injury at a time when both were producing positive performances.

“Cai has been unlucky with injury, so we feel for him. He is a top-quality man and he now has started that recovery journey with our staff and support. “

Angus will also be out for a spell. He’s had a thumb operation so we will see how he goes and look to get him back as soon as possible.”
