Wales failed to score in a Five or Six Nations game for the first time since 1998 as they were beaten 43-0 at Stade de France.
The French scored four tries in the first half and three more after the break as they kicked-off their campaign with seven tries. Jac Morgan’s Welsh team were undone by the power of the French pack, although remained competitive and defiant to the end.
Aaron Wainwright was forced off early on through injury while Dragons RFC team-mates Elliot Dee and Rhodri Williams were second half replacements.
They now move on to Rome to face Italy in Round 2 as they continue to find a way to break a losing sequence that has now been stretched to 13 games.
