Head Coach Filo Tiatia has revealed fly half Lloyd Evans is back in the mix as Dragons prepare for a South African double header – but Wales ace Elliot Dee will miss Saturday’s opener with DHL Stormers.
Evans, who has made 11 senior appearances this season, has not featured since mid-February after suffering a leg injury.
But the 29-year-old has made the trip to Cape Town for the BKT United Rugby Championship fixture with play-off chasing DHL Stormers this weekend.
“Lloyd is back. He has fought hard after a nasty injury that has set him back a lot longer than we anticipated,” revealed Tiatia.
“He is now challenging for one of the positions as a ten this week.
“I thought Lloyd played well in the first block this season, played a lot of games, and then he got ruled out with a number of injures and some form.
“It opened the door for some other candidates for that jersey. Now he is back pushing for a place.
“In terms of selection, Matthew Screech won’t be available for the remainder of this season.
“He has taken a few knocks, so he has been stood down. He has been great in the environment, but we have made that call.
“Ben Carter our skipper is available, but Rodrigo (Martinez) is not available.
“Finally, Elliot (Dee) is not currently in South Africa as his wife Ruby is expecting a baby. Once the baby has arrived, he will be on the next plane out.”
