Joe Davies To Depart Dragons

17/05/2025

Dragons RFC can confirm that second row Joe Davies will be leaving the club at the end of the season, having played his final game for the club against Vodacom Bulls in Pretoria.

Davies made 137 appearances for the club during an 12-year stay with the Men of Gwent having made his debut against Scarlets in November 2013.

A product of the Dragons Academy system as well as Caldicot RFC, Davies’ connection to the club began long before he joined the pathway having been part of camps held by Dragons Community team as a youngster.

Affectionately known as ‘Big Joe’ by his supporters and team-mates, Davies more than lived up to the title with his size and bulk on both sides of the ball proving a weapon for Dragons and a thorn in opposition sides.

He memorably scored his one and only Dragons try in the win over Oyonnax Rugby last season.

The whole Dragons organisation wish to thank Davies for his outstanding contribution on the field but also off it.

“I’ve enjoyed working with Joe, he’s been a pleasure to work with,” said Head Coach Filo Tiatia.

“I only met him in pre-season, but I’ve known what his aspirations are right from the start.

“He was awesome to work with and we kept things really simple around what his super powers were and really build trust around the things we wanted to achieve.

“Joe has worked really hard on his collision work both sides of the ball and what a lock does to influence the game, with momentum swings and dominating collisions.

“I love him. He’s such a good man, a loyal man, a good family man and we’re all going to miss him.”
