Defence Coach Dale MacLeod has called on Dragons RFC to produce a performance to be proud of when they face Ospreys in the BKT United Rugby Championship on Saturday evening (kick-off 5.30pm).
The Men of Gwent compete the opening block of the league season with a Welsh derby on home soil and look to bounce back from the defeat to Cardiff Rugby last time out.
“It’s been a good week of preparation - a full week makes a difference,” said MacLeod.
“The boys can’t wait. We want to get out and put a good performance in and the sooner that Saturday comes the better.
“We haven’t spoken about last season (against Ospreys). We have talked about putting on a performance that we can be really proud of.
“We’re at home so we are keen to get back out. We felt we didn’t achieve last week so our motivation is all about stepping forward and embracing this challenge. We have a job to do.
“We can improve on all areas,” he added. “When we get in the opposition 22 we have got to be converting it into points. We’ve got to take points whenever we can and build scoreboard pressure.
“There are things we can do with defence, set piece and maul, with our goal line defence.
“We will be much fresher for a full turnaround. The boys are really focussed, we’ve had a good training week, and it feels like a different team.”
Meanwhile, MacLeod has revealed he will take charge of team affairs on Saturday evening with Head Coach Filo Tiatia having to return to New Zealand for personal reasons. “
We were well planned before he left - we are all good to go,” he said.
“What has Filo has done this year is make it that if any one of us is away then someone is ready to step in. We are ready to go.”
