Pontypool produced a superb fightback to gain revenge on last weekend’s defeat at Carmarthen Quins with a home win against the same opposition.
The game began in a similar vain to last weekend, with Quins leading 21-3 at half-time, having led 24-0 at the same point last weekend.
Pooler produced a stirring fightback, with a brace from close range by replacement Ieuan Jones before a superb driving maul in the final minutes allowed Wales U20s hooker Evan Wood to score the winning try.
A penalty and three conversions from fly-half Kieran Meek in blustery conditions secured a 24-21 win.
In total there were five Dragons on show in Ewan Rosser, Morgan Lloyd, Evan Minto, Owain James and Ryan Jones against a strong Quins side who have already won at Cardiff this season.
The win sees Pontypool climb up the table to seventh, above Cardiff who’s home game against Ebbw Vale was cancelled due to damage to the posts during Storm Amy.
Newport suffered a defeat at Swansea on Thursday night, despite tries for Dragons pair Cerrig Smith two conversions from the boot of Lloyd.
Now, all three Gwent sides will have a fortnight to prepare for the next round of fixtures.
Ebbw will kick things off on Thursday the 16th, live on S4C Clic, at home to Llandovery in a top of the table clash, before Pooler host Bridgend and Newport travel to Quins on Saturday, with both 2.30pm kick offs.
