Tiatia: A lot of good we can build on

26/09/2025

Head Coach Filo Tiatia believes his Dragons can build on the battling performance with Ulster Rugby – as they prepare to return home next week.

Aaron Wainwright opened the scoring after just 12 seconds in the BKT United Rugby Championship at Affidea Stadium.

Jared Rosser and Shane Lewis-Hughes also got across the whitewash and two further scores were disallowed as the Men of Gwent came close to taking deserved points back from Belfast.

Dragons now return home to Rodney Parade next Friday evening to face Hollywoodbets Sharks and Tiatia wants his squad to take learnings and build on the opening day defeat.

“We were our own worst enemy in parts of the game,” said Tiatia. “Our lack of discipline gifted Ulster a couple of opportunities.

“Ulster are one of the best teams when in the 22, they are pretty clinical and come away with points.

“There was a lot of good in our game that we can build on, we’ve just got to keep improving on holding onto the ball and we couldn’t really launch off our set-piece.

“There’s a few things to tidy up before the Sharks at home on Friday night, but there were some positive moments in attack and we applied a lot of pressure.

“We’ve just got to keep working really hard, learn from our mistakes and keep building - it’s game one, so we’ve just got to instil belief in the things we are doing, because there is a lot of good. We’ll keep building.”
