Patchell to leave Dragons role

15/04/2026

Dragons RFC can confirm Rhys Patchell will leave his role at the club at the conclusion of this season.

Former Wales international Patchell linked up with the Men of Gwent for the 2025/26 season in a new part-time consultancy position as Kicking Coach.

The 32-year-old will now depart at the conclusion of this campaign to move to Italy with his family after being named Attack Coach with BKT United Rugby Championship side Benetton Rugby.

Head Coach Filo Tiatia said: “Rhys has been an important member of our team throughout this season as he has imparted his knowledge and experience onto our players.

“He’s a young coach who has an opportunity to take on a full-time role overseas and take the next step in his coaching journey, after his recent playing retirement.

“Rhys will leave with our thanks for his efforts throughout this season and best wishes as his young family start a new adventure in Italy.

“We look forward to welcoming him back to Rodney Parade in the near future in his new role.”

Patchell said: “I’d like to thank Filo (Tiatia) and Chappy (James Chapron) for the opportunity to take my first steps into coaching at Dragons RFC.

“All the players and staff have been very welcoming, and I am grateful for the experiences of the season and the friendships built.

“Whilst I will be moving on at the end of the season, I am determined to now help the Dragons finish the season strongly.”
