Young Dragons Academy wing duo Theo McKerrow and Noah Morgan grabbed a try as Newport RFC opened up pre-season with a 31-21 success over Bedwas.
Newport – who included Tiehi Chatham, Noah Morgan, Cerrig Smith, Monty Jones and Nathan Davies from Dragons – battled back from a 14-7 deficit to secure the victory.
McKerrow and Morgan were on the score sheet in the second period with Dragons Academy flu half Will Ford - making his first appearance for the club – slotting three conversions.
The Black & Ambers pre-season fixtures continue with a trip to Guernsey to face Guernsey Raiders in St. Peter Port on Saturday (August 15) before returning to Wales to face Beddau on Saturday, August 22.
Meanwhile, Dragons Academy wing Rhys Cole started as Pontypool enjoyed a 43-14 success over Ystrad Rhondda at Gelligaled Park.
Prop Scott Crewe – who featured off the bench alongside Academy team-mates Dan Bassett, Jake Sheppward and Carter Pritchard – also scored a second half try.
Pontypool are next in action on Saturday (Augsut 15) when they face Newbridge, while Ebbw Vale continue pre-season preparations with a clash at Cross Keys.
