Race to Rodney heating up for BUCs teams

Jamie Preston | 25/02/2026

The race to Rodney Parade is hotting up with teams in the BUCS Super Rugby men's and women's leagues charging for points - and seedings - with the race for play-off places on the line.

The top two of the men’s league couldn’t be closer with Loughborough and Bath separated by just one point as they look to secure a home route to the final.

Both sides are on the road this week to Durham and Swansea respectively hoping to maintain their advantage on the chasing pack.

Durham themselves are in a battle for third and fourth in the league, and a home quarter final, with 13 points separating Exeter, themselves, Nottingham, reigning champions Hartpury and Cardiff Met.

The Archers came within inches of making the final last year only to be denied by a try from Hartpury and Dragons back row Evan Minto.

The big tie in game week 16 is between third place Exeter and fifth place Nottingham, who are separated by just seven points.

In the women’s league, Hartpury lead by a massive 19 points having earned 11 bonus point wins from 11 this season.

The fight for second is tight with Loughborough, Cardiff Met and Exeter all within four points of each other.

Loughborough face Brunel at home tonight (Wednesday) while Exeter travel to Hartpury - the race to Rodney Parade could not be more exciting.

With reigning champions Cardiff Met getting a bye in game week 12, they will be looking to finish strong with a clash at home to Loughborough in the final game week of the season next Wednesday.

The top four are clear from the bottom three sides, with Brunel, Edinburgh and Cardiff University competing for the final two playoff spots.
