Dragons RFC are pleased to announce James Benjamin will remain at the club after being appointed as an Academy Coach.
Legendary forward Benjamin made 104 appearances for the Men of Gwent over 13 seasons, after making his debut in 2013.
The hugely popular Newport-born forward – affectionally known as Jumbo to friends and fans alike - operated in the back row, centre and at hooker for his home club.
Benjamin finished his playing career at the club at the conclusion of last season but will now work as part of the club’s Academy set-up to help nurture and develop the next generation of talent in Gwent.
Lewis Roberts, Academy Manager, said: “We’re delighted that James is joining the Academy coaching team and continuing his long and successful association with the club.
“He knows exactly what is required to come through our Academy system and into the senior set-up as a former product himself and he’s not only a talented coach but also a superb role model for young players at the club.
“James has been heavily involved with the Academy set-up over the last few seasons, as he combined coaching with his playing duties, so this will be a seamless transition and an exciting appointment.”
James Benjamin said: “It’s a huge privilege to be able to remain with a club that has been such a massive part of my life.
“As a former Dragons Academy product, it’s hugely exiting to now be working with the next generation and help the club continue to develop future Dragons.”
