Welsh dreams of reaching the World Rugby Junior World Championship semi-finals were uprooted by defending champions South Africa who roared to a 52-33 victory at Avchala Stadium in Tblisi.
Richard Whiffin’s side made a dream start by scoring early tries through tearaway flanker Caio James and centre Steffan Emanuel but once South Africa weathered the early storm, they went on to outscore Wales eight tries to five to book their place in the semi-finals.
Wales - who included Evan Minto and George Tuckley from Dragons RFC in the starting line-up - finished second in Pool A, will now play Australia on Sunday in the 5th-8th play-off finals.
