Dragons RFC were named ‘Green Business of the Year’ at the inaugural Newport Business Awards on Thursday evening at Rodney Parade.
The new awards were launched this year to recognise and celebrate the outstanding businesses, innovators, and entrepreneurs that are shaping our city’s future.
The Newport Business Awards aim to shine a spotlight on the people and companies driving the area forward, those who are creating jobs, delivering innovation, and making a positive impact in the local economy and beyond.
Dragons RFC were shortlisted in two categories this year:
- Newport Community Award
- Green Business of the Year
And at a prestigious black-tie launch event and ceremony at Rodney Parade the club was awarded the ‘Green Business of the Year’.
Dragons RFC launched its ‘Eco Dragons’ campaign in 2023 as we looked to improve our sustainability, carbon footprint and drive positive change. Over the last three years this project has become a core principle of all we do at Rodney Parade.
David Watts, Sustainability Lead at Dragons RFC, said: “We were absolutely delighted to receive the award after being shortlisted alongside so many other fantastic and deserving projects in Newport.
“The Eco Dragons project has grown exponentially over the last three seasons with our scope of work driven by the staff here and the support of our partners and sponsors.
“We’re excited by impact of the project so far, but also the way this can grow in the seasons to come. The work has just begun, so we are excited by what the next 12 months holds in this key area of focus for us.”
