Captain Angus O’Brien encouraged Dragons to build on the foundations of the performance against the DHL Stormers as they pushed the Cape Town club all the way in an enthralling BKT United Rugby Championship clash in South Africa.
The Men of Gwent produced a gritty and spirited show at DHL Stadium and could have taken points from the clash with a Rio Dyer try ruled out late on.
The effort was summed up by a brave late defensive set that saw Dragons repel the home side and keep the defeat to eight points.
“I think the last phase of play just exemplified it,” said O’Brien. “We can take so much from that game.
“We actually feel a little bit disheartened because we had some opportunities, especially close to the try line, that we didn’t quite capitalise on. Then it is a different game.
“I am so proud of the boys, and we have plenty to build on for next week (against the Lions).
“We have found a way to win those close games, particularly at home,” he added.
“It is now about transitioning that and finding an away win that we can take confidence from.
“These performances we keep putting in just show the character in the group and when that (away) win comes it will be very deserved.”
