Dragons Phoenix

The Homeless Rugby Team is a walking/touch rugby team made up homeless or previously homeless people and was established in the 2015/16 season. The team has gone from strength to strength, providing many memorable moments and we are very proud of this provision.

In consultation with our players, coaches & partner, we have re-branded to ‘Dragons Phoenix’, which takes away the stigma of the name ‘Homelessness’ from our participants now that they are playing regular fixtures.

Phoenix symbolises, rising from the flames as a winner, beating all life challenges and defeating hard times, which capsulate our ethos towards this provision perfectly.

If you are interested in joining our team, please contact our Inclusion Officer, Caitlin Rees, who will provide you with full training and fixture information.

Through the support of Astro, we have been able to provide our Homeless provision with branded rugby balls for training & match days.

Mike Sage, Dragons Community Manager, commenting on the partnership said, “We are delighted to be working with our good friends from Astro again this season and many thanks for provide our Community and Inclusion team with the tools to inspire our Dragons Family.

“With the continual growth of our Inclusion provisions, Astro’s support is so valuable in providing our size 4 Rugby Balls, which allows us to inspire our Dragons Family through our sporting, educational and inclusion activations. Whether it’s practicing our skills, co-ordination or playing games, Astro is at the heart of developing our hands.

“Pass, catch, kick or run, with an Astro ball, it’s always fun”.
