Dragons Rugby Limited held its first board meeting at which the board committed to ensuring the success of top-level rugby in South East Wales

Dragons Rugby Limited held its first board meeting at which the board committed to ensuring the success of top-level rugby in South East Wales.

The name of the team representing Dragons Rugby Limited; shall be “Newport Gwent Dragons”. However, every endeavour will be made to brand the team “The Dragons”.

Dragons Rugby Limited are delighted to announce that Bisley, office furniture suppliers, will be the title sponsors for the remainder of the 2003/04 season. The Bisley logo will appear on the front of the Dragons playing shirt and Newport Unlimited will remain the back plate sponsors.

Off the field, The Dragons have pledged their support to all community projects run in Gwent and will be involved in The Gateway Rugby project, Second Half project as well as the various community initiatives that the WRU runs.

On the field, The Dragons first ever game in Europe saw them emphatically beat former European Cup winners Ulster and despite fighting valiantly last weekend were not able to overcome the twice-Heineken Cup winners Leicester Tigers. The Dragons next challenge at Rodney Parade is against French champions Stade Francais on Saturday January the 10th kick off 2.30pm.

The Leicester fixture finishes off the Heineken pool matches on the weekend of the 23rd January. Pool 1 is probably the most open of all 6 pools. Large vocal crowds could well be the difference between qualifying or not qualifying.

There will be pre and post match entertainment at the ground for these games and the newly configured family village will be fully open. The Dragons have not had a Saturday afternoon match this season, which traditionally is when supporters prefer to watch their rugby. As well as activities planned for match days the supporters club are hoping to organise a French evening on Friday 9th January. The new company is also pleased to announce a new mini season ticket package offering supporters the chance to see top Heineken Cup and Celtic League action with a significant saving on match day prices. Children will be able to watch for half the match day price whilst adult prices start from £70.
