Wales U21s suffered a defeat to France U21s at Cournon on Tuesday night meaning their hopes of a top four finish in the U21 World Cup Championships have ended. The Welsh youngster’s now need to beat Argentina on Saturday to qualify for playing for the fifth place play off.
However, that is no foregone conclusion with Argentina beating Ireland yesterday (Tuesday) and if they lose to the young Puma’s will have to battle it out for one of the lower places.
France led 6-0 after 10 minutes thanks to two penalties but Aled Thomas got Wales on the scoreboard when he added a penalty.
Despite being reduced to 14 men the Welsh youngster’s didn’t concede a point and went in three points adrift at the break. However, six minutes into the second half and France scored the opening try and when Ed Shervington received his second yellow card of the match Wales had to face the remaining 20 minutes with 14 men on the field. France then cut loose scoring three tries in the final quarter.
