DRAGONS RUGBY MANAGER

The Role

The Newport Gwent Dragons is one of four professional rugby teams in Wales. Representing an area with 50 Welsh Rugby Union clubs it has traditionally been a strong hold of Welsh rugby. The region is now looking to recruit a rugby manager. Answerable to the Chief Executive, the position will play a key role in ensuring the operational needs of the Dragons team are met along with developing the long term strategic plan for the development of rugby talent in the region and line of succession for the team.

Specific responsibilities are as follows:

  • To manage and ensure adherence to the annual budget for all playing aspects of the Newport Gwent Dragons specifically player, coaches, training, medical, travel and accommodation costs.

  • To assist the CEO in drawing up, completing and the enactment of Dragons player contracts including that of development and academy players.

  • To implement a strategic and coordinated approach to player development, assessment and feedback, including the Dragons succession plan. This is to include overseeing the age grade talent identification and development programme.

  • To be the day-to-day point of contact for the academy manager. With responsibility for ensuring that the academy meets the requirements of the Dragons succession plan.

  • To manage and ensure adherence to the relevant Union and competition regulations including player transfer, registration, anti doping and team declarations. This responsibility to include the allocation of players and the permit system in order to ensure the best development of the respective players.

  • To manage and coordinate the logistic arrangements for training facilities, away travel and accommodation. To travel with the team and be responsible for all off field arrangements.

  • To manage the relationship as it relates to rugby matters between the key stakeholders in the Dragons region. This is to include premiership teams, academy and feeder clubs and where appropriate sponsors, community department and media.

  • Liaise with relevant personnel in the Union and where appropriate other key stake holders including media and sponsors.

  • To ensure in conjunction with the CEO and head coach that the requirements of the regional participation agreement are met and when required represent the Region at appropriate meetings with the Union and other stakeholders.

  • To support the work of the head coach in order to create an elite environment within which the team can optimally perform and develop. This to include the monitoring of the medical, analyst and fitness aspects of the teams

  • Be the point of contact for player personnel issues including discipline and ensuring that contracts including commercial obligations are adhered to.

  • Where required, assist with media requirements of the team including when necessary attendance at press conferences.

  • Present a monthly and annual report on the development of the team and emerging talent to the CEO and Board of Directors.

  • Any other duties as may be reasonably required

A three year fixed term contract is offered with attractive remuneration package.
