This week saw the first FUNdamentals of Movement INSET day for Primary school teachers run by the Dragons Coach Education Department. Teachers from all across the region attended the day to help develop their skills and knowledge of developing FUNdamental skills to Primary School children. The day consisted of developing physical literacy for children, developing fun games and healthy eating presentations.
The FUNdamentals initiative is a joint project between the WRU and Health Challenge Wales which aims to develop children’s skills at Primary School level. Mike Pugsley, Coach Education Officer for the Region said ‘It was a great day and all the teachers who attended gave some excellent feedback about the new ideas they could take back to their schools. The whole aim of today was to help teachers develop their skills to be able to plan and deliver FUN and meaningful activities with the intention to develop their physical literacy, hence giving them the best opportunity to reach their potential in their sporting life’s. It would have been good to have a few more attend the day but at least we have started the ball rolling and we can hopefully make the event bigger and better next year.’
