The Men of Gwent will be taking up another challenge on 7th August as they join youngsters from the region in a Guinness Book of Records attempt for the most consecutive passes of a rugby ball over 5 metres.
The current record is 282 passes so the Dragons will be joined by youth players from across the region to get over 300 passes completed on the Rodney Parade pitch.
The event will take place as part of the opening to the Newport Gwent Dragons annual ‘Men of Gwent’ Sevens tournament on Saturday 7th August 2010 at Rodney Parade, Newport, commencing with registration at 10am with the record attempt at 10.45am.
All twelve teams competing in the competition will be invited to send representatives to join the attempt.
The attempt has been organised in conjunction with Hybu Pobl Ifanc in support of Children in Need. As well as the record attempt, the organisers are asking participants to raise some sponsorship for BBC Children in Need. The BBC Children in Need team in Wales are so excited about this that they have offered a free DVD for everyone who raises over £10.00 in sponsorship and if you manage to raise £20.00 you can claim a limited edition Pudsey Wales Bobble Hat. Pudsey will also be taking part and will be happy to have his picture taken with those who are involved.
Sponsor Forms are at Rodney Parade and can be downloaded from their web site. You will need to bring your sponsor form and the money you have collected to the event to be able to claim your gift.
Gill James from Hybu Pobl Ifanc said “We are grateful to the Newport Gwent Dragons for joining with us in this exciting event and we hope to have as many people as possible taking part so we can make this an unbreakable record.”
Anyone wishing to join the record attempt should contact Mike Sage mike.sage@rodneyparadeltd.com to register.
