The Dragons Under 17's beat Connacht Under 17's at Pontypool on Saturday 21-19 in fantastic game of rugby.
The Game was arranged in preparation of next seasons under 18 Age Grade team. Both teams contributed to a very fast and skilful game. After only one training session for the Dragons team Paul Young the head coach was well impressed on how quickly the boys who had not previously been involved with the Dragons adapted to the systems that were asked of them.
The Dragons opened the scoring with some excellent phase play and a brace of tries from Brandon Kent and conversions by Nial Martin enabled them to take a 14 point lead. Credit must also be given to Connaught who like the Dragons had a number of youngsters in their team and scored tries of their own to make a half time lead of 14 -12.
A number of changes were made at half time so that both set of coaches were able to see other players, and Connacht crept into a 19 - 14 lead, with time running out a try and conversion from Ethan Davies won the game.
After the game both sets of coaches were very pleased with their players effort and skill levels and both felt that it was a fixture that was well worth its while.
