Rodney Parade to host a lunch with Richard Parks

Former Newport RFC and Newport Gwent Dragons star Richard Parks returns to Rodney Parade on 18th September 2015 to tell us his story.

Katie Vizard | 29/07/2015

The versatile back row, who made his first appearance for Newport RFC in 1996, returns to where it all began for him as he tells the tale of his life including his rugby career and his extreme environment challenges.

Parks made over 60 appearances for Newport RFC and over 30 appearances for the Men of Gwent but was forced to retire through injury in 2009.

Following his retirement from rugby, Parks made history twice with two incredible feats of endurance; a world first expedition called the 737 Challenge, where in July 2011 he became the first ever person to climb the highest mountain on each of the world's 7 continents and stand on all 3 poles (the North Pole, the South Pole and the summit of Everest) within 7 months. In January 2014 he became the first Welshman, and the fastest ever Brit to ski solo, unsupported and unassisted to the South Pole.

Parks’ other achievements include winning the Rugby Writers Club Special Award and winning the Just Giving Celebrity Fundraiser of the year. He has also been awarded the ‘Chancellors Medal’ by the University of Glamorgan, an Honorary Fellowship by the University of South Wales and has also been named in the Business Insider's top 100 most influential people in Wales.

Commenting on his return to Rodney Parade, Richard Parks said: “The journey started here at the Dragons and although it's well documented that being forced to retire from rugby was one of the toughest and most darkest periods of my life, the Dragons and the fans were really supportive throughout that time, so I am super excited to have the opportunity to come back to the club to share my experiences and this chapter of my life."

The event will include an in-depth look with Richard Parks at his life and his achievements as well as a two-course lunch including tea & coffee – all for just £32+VAT. If you are interested in attending the lunch please contact the events team on events@rodneyparadeltd.com or call on 01633 674955.
