Lewis, 18, is a rising star for not just for the region but Wales, having been involved in at the U20 World Championship earlier this summer. He’s now been whisked into a Dragons squad looking to go one step further in the Singha Premiership 7s, which kicks off at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on August 15.
In 2014 the Dragons progressed to the Series Final and were only stopped by Gloucester Rugby, who lifted the title for the second year running. And winger Lewis knows this is his chance to stake his claim for a place in the senior squad next season.
“It's a good opportunity for academy boys to get their name out there and put in some good performances and they all add up and are building blocks to the final product,” he said.
“I put the pressure in the back of my mind, I haven't played on the bigger stages though except for the U20 World Championship.
“There is a bit more pressure because you do know you are being watched and it's a high-profile occasion but it's just another game at the end of the day. We just go out there and get our heads down and do our jobs.
“As a winger 7s interests me a lot and I am really looking forward to the experience.
“I watched last year and I thought that it was something I wanted to be involved with in the future. They did really well last year and we will be trying to replicate that and go one step further this year.
“It is good that some of the players have had the experience of getting as far as they did last year and that could be useful.”
The Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series is the only competition this season where you will see the 12 Premiership Rugby clubs taking on the four Welsh Regions. And just 12 months before 7s returns to the Olympics in Rio, it represents a major opportunity for players from a number of different nations to state their case for a place at the Olympic Games.
The future is particularly bright if you’re a Dragons back, with Hallam Amos, Tyler Morgan and Jack Dixon all named in Wales’ World Cup training squad.
And Lewis added: “It's a good setup at the Dragons when you are in the academy and it takes you all the way through and I think there is a good conversion to the first team.
“There's a few in the squad now who came through and you just need to look at the team sheet to see that.
“With the coverage and the crowd for the competition, it is all new experiences that shape you as a player which are priceless and I think it will be a really good day.”
After kicking off in Wales the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s will continue at Gloucester Rugby on August 20, the Ricoh Arena on August 21 and Kingston Park on August 22, with the Series Final taking place on August 28 at the Twickenham Stoop.
