The Welsh international has been down with a long-term knee injury since the Dragons won the European Challenge Cup quarter final against Cardiff Blues at Rodney Parade.
The 30-year-old commented: “I had a few complications with the surgery… I had an artificial ligament put into my knee that my body decided to reject.
“It was one of those things that is impossible to foresee but now the knee is progressing very well and I’m looking forward to getting through the stages of rehab to get back sooner rather than later."
He continued: “When you’ve been injured you always come back hungrier and in the past I’ve played some of my best rugby after returning.
“I’m just excited about getting back on that field and reminding people of what I can do as a player.
“I’ve been under the knife five times in the last sixth months. To come out the other end and enjoy being back with the boys is great.
“I can see that return date getting closer and I’m excited.”
