DRAGONS LEAD THE WAY FOR WALES UNDER-20

Dragons have had nine players named in the Wales Under-20 squad for the forthcoming Six Nations – more than any other region.

21/01/2019

Tom Devine, Will Griffiths, Ed Scragg, Taine Basham, Dafydd Buckland, Aneurin Owen, Tom Hoppe, Deon Smith and Rio Dyer have all been named by Head Coach Gareth Williams.

With one eye on this year’s Junior World Championship to be staged in Argentina, Williams has named a 32-man squad which includes 13 players who have already gained experience at Under-20 level.

“This is the first selection point gearing towards the World Cup when looking at the bigger picture,” said Williams, who is in his first campaign as Head Coach.

“I’ve been really impressed with the attitude, and not just the players who have been successful in making the squad.

“We’ve also got an injured group of players and a training group as well as the Six Nations squad and all have been exemplary. We’ve had three camps with 60 players and the competitive nature of all ensures no-one can rest on their laurels as competition for places across the board has been intense.”

Wales begin the Six Nations championship against the junior world champions, France, at Stade de la Rabine in Vannes on Sunday, February 3before facing Italy a week later.

The first home game is at Stadiwm Zip World in Colwyn Bay on Friday, February 22, when they host England. Wales play Scotland in the fourth round before completing the campaign against Ireland in March 15.
