Dragons Rugby have promoted Mark Jones to Managing Director.
Mark has worked at Rodney Parade since 1985 and steps up from Head of Operations to become Managing Director, supported by the senior management team and Chairman David Buttress.
His role has evolved significantly over the last thirty-four years he has been at Rodney Parade. A leader with responsibility for all aspects in the day-to-day running of the venue, as well as capital expenditure budgets, special events and development projects, he will now also oversee the commercial, marketing, community and finance operations.
Dragons have serious ambitions to become a high performing region in Welsh rugby, on and off the field. Dean Ryan joined the board following his appointment as Director, Wales international fly half Sam Davies switched to Dragons from Ospreys and commercial revenues have continued to grow year-on-year.
“I am excited about what we can do here and there are some quick wins that we can enjoy,” said Mark. “I am running one side of the business to generate money to pass to Dean Ryan, so he can spend it on his side of the business.
“The senior management team and I will ensure no stone is left unturned when it comes to creating a sustainable, long-term business.”
Chairman David Buttress said, “When I think about what we need to build the club, Mark has the values, experience and the skills to be a really well-respected leader.
“As a Board and organisation we are delighted to see Mark step up to the Managing Director post. Mark knows the journey we are on to be the best we can possibly be. We need to be bold, ambitious and relentless in our off-field activities. Over time we are determined to become a positive example of commercial execution in professional rugby.”
