Rodney Parade to host Women’s EURO qualifiers

01/10/2020

Rodney Parade has been confirmed as the venue for Cymru’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 Qualifying Round double header in October.

Jayne Ludlow’s side will face Faroe Islands on Thursday 22 October before a showdown against group leaders Norway on Tuesday 27 October.

Cymru last played in Rodney Parade in August 2019 at the start of the Qualifying Round, in a 2-2 draw against Northern Ireland.

The latest match was a narrow 1-0 defeat to Norway in Oslo and Ludlow’s side will be looking to avenge that result in Newport.

The nine group winners and the three best runners-up (not counting results against the sixth-placed team) qualify directly for the final tournament, while the remaining six runners-up advance to the play-offs.

Both matches will be played behind closed doors, in line with the UEFA Executive Committee’s decision in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

UEFA will monitor the situation and advise on any full or partial lifting of restrictions at the appropriate time, which will also adhere to relevant Government guidelines.
