As the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic continues to present itself across the region, Dragons have continued to engage with all of our partners throughout, to understand these challenges, and offer support wherever possible.
Whilst reviewing this situation with our Headline Partners at Monmouthshire Building Society (MBS), it was decided that the most suitable option in the short-term would be to pause MBS’ status as the Headline Partners for the 2020/21 season, due to the Covid-19 induced changes to MBS’ operational priorities.
Moving forwards both parties will continue to review the situation, and wider economic position regularly, with the opportunity to review the partnership status in future.
Dragons will continue to provide support to the senior management team of MBS throughout 2020/21, as acknowledgement, thanks and recognition for their valued support, and providing the assistance that would be expected with the relationship in place.
Jonathan Westwood, Commercial Director at Dragons Rugby, said: “We would like to sincerely thank Will Carroll and his team at MBS for their hugely valued support over the previous three years.
“MBS joined the region at the onset of our rebrand to Dragons Rugby and have played a major role in our continued development and growth thus far. Our partnership has matured into one of mutual interest in each other’s success, based on personal relationships and trust.
“We have been delighted to work so closely with a brand as fitting to our values, and very much hope to continue to work together in the very near future. As we move forwards together, whatever we need to do to support our friends at MBS, as such a key stakeholder and large employer within our region we will deliver upon.
“Looking further ahead, we will be announcing our new headline partner next week as we continue to prepare for the 2020/21 season and beyond.”
Will Carroll, CEO at Monmouthshire Building Society, added: “The Society has loved being a part of the Dragons family for the last three years. The platform of headline sponsor was an opportunity for the Society to increase brand awareness within the region, and we are pleased with how this has developed during that time.
“With the three-year partnership concluding at the end of the 2019/20 season, and the current uncertainty around the pandemic, the Society feels it is the right time to press pause whilst we concentrate on supporting our members in what has been an extremely stressful time for many.
“The relationship with everyone at the Dragons has made this sponsorship a fantastic partnership to be a part of and I am sure we will be keeping in close contact and supporting where we can.”
