Wing Jonah Holmes already has one FOUR-midable European performance in the bag this season – and now he is hoping Dragons can deliver another when they tackle Bristol Bears.
Wales international Holmes amazingly grabbed four tries earlier this season in the European Challenge Cup pool stages for Leicester Tigers as they overwhelmed Pau.
The 27-year-old has since moved to Dragons and, after registration rules changed, he is now eligible for Dean Ryan’s men in the same competition.
Dragons will be aiming to make the last four of Europe when they face Bristol Bears on Friday, September 18 (kick-off 7.45pm).
And for Holmes, speaking in an interview with Rugby World magazine, the game represents another chance to show just how much the region is moving forward.
“The ambition is to kick on,” said Holmes, who has been joined by fellow new arrivals Nick Tompkins, Jamie Roberts, Joe Maksymiw, Greg Bateman and Harry Fry this summer.
“Dean Ryan has been doing a great job with teaching us as a collective, as a group of players, how we want to play and why we do certain things on the pitch.
“The how and why, while everyone is learning together. I think that is a great way of developing our own strategy.
“Everyone is just keen to really get going again and build on what we achieved last year.
“It’s exciting. When I speak to other friends, they say they look forward to seeing how Dragons go.”
And Holmes can even see the funny side after tournament organisers waived the rule which prohibits players from featuring for different clubs in the same competition in the same season.
“Of course, it’s pretty weird but I look forward to it. Potentially we could yet be playing Tigers in the final,” he added.
