Magic Jordan return boosts Dragons

22/10/2021

Boss Dean Ryan has welcomed the return of magic man Jordan Williams – and believes the full back is progressing well as he looks to produce his very best form for the region.

Williams shone on his first appearance of the United Rugby Championship season in Connacht as he scored one stunning solo effort and then produced a scintillating break to set up a try for Jonah Holmes.

The 28-year-old was ruled out of the Stormers clash but is set to return for the capital clash with Cardiff Rugby this Saturday (kick-off 5.15pm).

After two injury hit seasons, Ryan is eager to see his talented full back get a run of games. And he believes Williams is now producing a more rounded game to go with the eye-catching moments of brilliance he has become renowned for.

“We miss him when he is not available, without a doubt, because we don’t have many players with the ability to provide those moments,” said Ryan.

“Sometimes we end up in long phases of play because we don't have those elements within our game, so we are delighted to have him back.

“The expectation that Jordan turns up with a piece of magic every week is probably unrealistic,” he added.

“In my time here, he has shown a real desire to get better at all elements of the game. He has got better in his choices of when to run and when to kick.

“I am pretty happy with him, but the expectation that he will get his magic wand out every week is probably not ideal.

“He has magical moments and the ability to turn games through things that nobody could see, but I think his choices about when to do that were really in the spotlight against Connacht.

“He played the percentage game and field position really well, then gave us two magical moments.

“That's Jordy at his best and I am pretty happy with the progress that he is making.”
