Ryan: Sio can bring Parade alive

26/08/2022

Dean Ryan believes new recruit Sio Tomkinson can bring an X-Factor’ to Dragons RFC this season and Rodney Parade to its feet.

Tomkinson – who joined the Men of Gwent from the Highlanders in Super Rugby – starts his first game at outside centre tonight (Friday) against Bristol Bears (kick-off 7pm).

Ryan has been full of praise for all his summer signings and the impact they have already made on a new-look squad.

And he believes Tomkinson, 26, could quickly become a firm favourite with fans with all his all-action style in the back division.

“I think people will see Sio pretty quickly,” said the Director of Dragons RFC. “He is something we've probably lacked.

“He’s an X factor around 13 and the outside backs and the balance that he'll bring will open up room for Jack Dixon and Max Clark.

“That's what I'm interested in seeing develop. Jack's been outstanding for us, and we’ve probably had to go to him way too often.

“Now I want to see threat a little bit more varied across the back line, a little bit more competition for places.

“I think Sio will certainly bring Rodney Parade alive on a few more occasions. I'm really excited to see him play.”

Watch Dragons RFC in the pre-season opener with Bristol Bears at Rodney Parade on Friday (kick-off 7pm).

Tickets are just £10 for adults and £5 for Under-16s. Season Members gain FREE entry! Tickets will be on sale from the Ticket Office right up until kick-off.
