Prop Brown Races Commonwealth Athlete

21/07/2022

Dragons RFC recently visited the brilliant training facilities at Cardiff Met University to continue their preparations for the new campaign.

Racing around the track surrounding the field was Team Wales & Commonwealth Games athlete Jenny Nesbitt who is preparing for glory in Birmingham over the next couple of weeks.

Nesbitt will represent Wales and take her place in the 5,000m race at the Commonwealth Games, which starts next week.

Prop Leon Brown, impressed by the 27-year-old's pace, decided to test himself and attempted to keep pace with Nesbitt for one lap around the athletics track.

Welsh international Brown said: “I was watching the pace she was going around the track at and thought to myself would I be able to keep up, so I had one go, one lap at it and realised she does that pace for twelve and half laps so fair play to her, very impressed.”

“I thought I did alright for 200m but then the lungs started kicking in, but fair play to her and I really hope she goes well over the next couple of weeks in the Commonwealth and wish her all the best, I will be watching.”

Team Wales Athlete, Nesbitt said: “I reckon we stick him in the 5k and see what happens, but I would give him a solid seven out of ten, enthusiasm all there, just needs to work on his endurance a little bit” she laughed.

“The games are really local to me as I grew up in Worcester, so literally down the road and all my friends family, school teachers are all coming to watch so I hope I can go out there and do everybody proud.

“I just want to thank you for all the support everyone has given me over the last fifteen years, it means a lot.”
