Dragons RFC ace Angus O’Brien was this evening named the Tony Brown Player of the Season at the club’s Awards Night at Rodney Parade.
O’Brien, who returned to the Men of Gwent this season for a second spell, topped a public vote to claim the top honour on the night – with the award now named after Tony Brown after his recent sad passing.
Other big winners on the night – where staff and players came together to reflect of the last 12 months - were Rio Dyer, who was named the Ed Jackson Players’ Player of the Season, and Ben Carter, named the Young Player of the Season.
The Phil James Community Award was won by George Nott for his work and support of the Dragons Community team throughout the season. George has supported several provisions and been a big advocate of the Dragons Allstars. Huw Taylor was also given a Special Recognition Award.
Try of the Season was given to JJ Hanrahan for the memorable team effort against DHL Stormers last December in South Africa.
Wales Under-20s captain Ryan Woodman who the Academy Player of the Season and Wales Under-18s star Savannah Picton-Powell the Female Player of the Season.
Club milestones were also recognised on the night while departing players were presented with framed jerseys as thanks for their efforts and impact at Dragons RFC.
