Dragons RFC were delighted to welcome Ron Rutland and the #RaceToRWC2023 team to Rodney Parade last week as part of an epic fundraiser based around Rugby World Cup 2023.
Adventurer Ron is carrying the Rugby World Cup referee’s whistle for the first match of the tournament in France, when the hosts face New Zealand on September 8.
Cycling from Eden Park to Stade de France, his aim is to raise as much money as possible for Childfund Rugby.
Ron’s previous fundraising challenges include a solo bike journey through Africa, golfing through the ‘hole’ of Mongolia and for the Rugby World Cup 2019 he cycled from London to Tokyo.
Ron has endured an epic journey since leaving New Zealand in November last year. By the time he reaches Paris, Ron will have cycled 22,000km through New Zealand, South America, Mexico, the USA and Europe – and, of course, visited the home of Dragons RFC in Newport.
