O'Brien strives for clinical edge

19/02/2023

Full back Angus O’Brien conceded Dragons needed to be more clinical - after ruthless Leinster wrapped up a bonus point win at the RDS Arena in Dublin.

The Men of Gwent scored tries courtesy of Rhodri Williams and JJ Hanrahan in Dublin.

However, several other visits to the home 22 and periods of pressure went unrewarded whereas Leinster showed just why they are undefeated this season.

O’Brien, though, was quick to rightly praise the effort and endeavour from Dragons after a week dominated by off-field headlines.

“It was an outstanding effort from all the boys considering the week everyone has had,” he said.

“You could see how much it meant to the boys. Everyone put their body on the line and really worked hard for each other.

“There was lots of good within it. The score is disappointing, you take nothing away from that, but there is lots we can build on and use against Connacht in a few weeks.

“Leinster are extremely clinical,” he added. “Coming here, if you give them an inch, they take a mile.

“At times we had them on the ropes, but we weren’t as clinical as them and the score reflects that.

“We did have a lot of opportunities, spent a lot of time in their 22 and that is something we can clear up in the week.

“We’ll turn up Monday, review hard and be honest with ourselves again.

“We’ve got to learn and keep getting better. Hopefully we can put a good performance in at Rodney Parade one last time this season.”
