Reardon features as Combined Provinces win

19/02/2023

Dragons Women scrum half Molly Reardon featured in the first half as Wales Development XV lost out 19-0 to undefeated Combined Provinces at a wet and windy Kingspan Stadium.

The home side made it three wins out of three in the Celtic Challenge with an impressive performance in tricky conditions.

The visitors could have taken the lead inside two minutes as winger Amelia Tutt cut through the home defence but ran out of support near the try line and her pass was intercepted.

Wales Development dominated territory and possession, but the opening quarter remained scoreless.

The Combined Provinces slowly started to get a foot hold in the game and were rewarded with the opening try on 27 minutes.

After Wales conceded a penalty, hooker Deirbhile Nic a Bhaird took a quick tap and went over unopposed from close range with Dannah O’Brien adding the conversion.

After conceding several penalties on their own try line Combined Provinces had Nic a Bhaird yellow carded.

The Welsh side should have had a try in the last minute of the half after a series of forward rumbles towards the line the ball was spun wide Tutt surged for the corner but a great cover tackle by O’Brien dislodged the ball.

Kayla Waldron got a second Combined Provinces try on the hour, stepping the last defender to touch down. O’Brien failed to convert.

Aoife Wafter scored a sensational long-range try to put the game beyond doubt on 72 minutes, which O’Brien converted.

Wales Development XV: Caitlin Lewis, Amelia Tutt, Jenna De Vera, Niamh Terry, Molly Phillpot, Robyn Wilkins, Molly Reardon, Rosie Carr, Kat Evans, Danielle Dinapot, Charlie Mundy, Abbie Fleming, Kate Williams, Meiissa Gnojek, Bryonie King
