New scrum half Dane Blacker will make a first appearance of the season for Dragons RFC in the friendly with Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets on Friday evening (kick-off 7pm).
The Men of Gwent travel west looking to build on the 20-19 victory over Ospreys in pre-season as preparations step up ahead of the new BKT United Rugby Championship (URC) campaign.
Steff Hughes captains the team from centre against his former club while there a first appearance in pre-season for Jordan Williams at full back.
Only Will Reed, Chris Coleman, George Young, Rodrigo Martinez and Ollie Griffiths start from the second successive game as Dai Flanagan uses a 30-man squad.
Matt O’Brien, Attack Coach at Dragons RFC, said: “We produced some good stuff last week (against Ospreys), some of our attacking sets were positive.
“There is obviously a lot to work on, rustiness which you get in a first pre-season game, but we exposed a lot of our youngsters which was important. They acquitted themselves well.
“It’s always nice to win, we won’t hide from that, and it was a good start, but we have learnings that we want to improve on in Llanelli.
“It’s about getting better. You have pre-season to try out combinations and get the rustiness out so that by game one of the URC we have ironed out a few things and are ready to go.”
