Calf injury rules Lloyd out of action

16/02/2024

Dai Flanagan has revealed prop Lloyd Fairbrother will miss the next few months after suffering a calf injury.

Fairbrother, who has played 172 games for the Men of Gwent, has not featured since the New Year’s Day victory over Scarlets.

The 32-year-old has been out of action with a calf issue and Flanagan has now confirmed the prop – who made his Wales debut back in November – will sit out upcoming BKT United Rugby Championship fixtures.

“Lloyd has had quite a severe calf injury, so he was looking at four months out. He is a month into that journey now,” said Flanagan.

“But what we are seeing with Lloyd around the facility is that he has just had a baby with his partner, so he is the happiest man in the world right now, which is great to see.

“He is a champion of a human, and he deserves to be really happy. We look forward to seeing him back on the field later this season.”

One player who does return this weekend is full back Cai Evans, after his recent exploits with Wales in the Six Nations.

Evans, 24, has been released for game time after a brief cameo against England last weekend.

“I just love having Cai on the field, he’s a top-end full-back and a very good 10,” said Flanagan.

“I firmly believe the future for Cai, to really get the maximum out of his career, is at full-back but there's no reason he couldn't do it at 10 if needs be.”
