Dragons Community have ensured over-55 residents at two Newport homes have been kept active over the last few months – thanks to support from Newport City Homes (NCH) and Vital Energi.
Our award-winning Community team and NCH have worked closely together since joining forces in 2019. NCH provide homes and services to more than 10,000 residents, leaseholders, and shared owners in the city of Newport.
As the largest social landlord in Newport, NCH are uniquely placed to play a key role in ensuring residents and communities are given opportunities to grow and succeed.
NCH has extended its work with Dragons Community this season to promote our family of provisions to residents and communities across the city.
That has resulted in the Dragons Community team visiting residents at Aneurin Bevan Court, Nightingale Court in Duffryn, plus Woodside over 55 scheme, since November.
Our staff visit once a month, with support from Vital Energy who are carrying out works to the heating system in the area, and will continue to do so until the summer. The sessions have seen residents keeping active - with Kurling competitions getting more and more competitive!
Mike Sage, Community Manager at Dragons RFC, said: “We’re proud of our partnership with Newport City Homes and the extension of that work is fantastic, ensuring people across the city have access to a diverse variety of inspiring and often life-changing opportunities.
“With the additional support of Vital Energi, we’ve been engaging with NCH residents and making a positive impact.
“We’ve loved meeting such inspiring people. The participants love our monthly sessions, so much that they have asked if we can attend more regularly. “It’s great to have that endorsement and see the creation of new Kurling teams too!
“Our visits will culminate in an away day for residents at Rodney Parade in July where they will be given a stadium tour, a Sporting Memories session and even a Kurling competition between homes.
“The residents have always warmly welcomed us into their home, and we can’t wait to return that kind hospitality and welcome them to the home of the Dragons in the coming months.”
