Backs Coach Matt O’Brien has praised the impact of captain Steff Hughes for Dragons RC once again this season – both on and off the field.
Hughes has clocked up 29 appearances for the Men of Gwent since joining in 2022 and this season has been named club captain.
O’Brien has worked closely alongside Hughes since his own promotion on the coaching team and has praised the way in which the ultra-consistent 29-year-old centre has gone about his work again this campaign.
“Steff has been outstanding for us,” said O’Brien.
“He's probably one of the players who doesn't get the headlines, but what people don’t realise is just how good he is from a Monday through to Saturday until you work with him.
“I did a little bit of coaching with Steff with Wales Under-18s and I knew then how much of a rugby brain he’s got and how smart he is. He's been outstanding since coming in.
“He's obviously captain now and he's a really good leader, both on and off the field,” he added.
“He's a very calm head and good with officials. He’s a smart rugby player who would be a great addition to any squad.
“We're lucky to have Steff here, as well as all of our centres, and it’s a real position of strength for us.”
